CASE STUDIES
Coral Oaks Media Familiarization Tour

The City of Cape Coral’s Parks & Recreation department operates Coral Oaks Golf Course. In August 2004 the golf course was hit hard by Hurricane Charley and subsequently closed its doors for three weeks. The Parks & Recreation department’s goal was two-fold – first to get the message to the public that Coral Oaks was open for business once again and was cleaner and greener than ever; and second to enhance the course’s image, proving that is remains an asset to the community.

Spiro & Associates, in conjunction with Cape Coral’s Parks & Recreation department planned a Nine & Dine Media Day at the golf course for journalists to see all the improvements first hand.

Three major local media outlets attended the Nine & Dine Media Day. Approximately 12 members of the city government and 15 Mariner high school students and administrators were in attendance as well. The event resulted in overwhelmingly positive coverage for the golf course and Parks & Recreation Department.

Spiro & Associates determined through subsequent evaluation that of the surveyed Coral Oaks golfers who read or heard news about Coral Oaks 74 percent had a good or very good impression of the course.
